Frequently asked questions about Contentful

When is Contentful the right fit for us?
Contentful is worth it when you deliver the same content across several channels – website, app and other touchpoints – and want to scale editorially without being locked into one frontend. As an API-first headless CMS it cleanly separates content from channel, so structured content is maintained centrally and reused everywhere. If you only need a single website with a classic page layout, a leaner system is often the better match.
How do you approach content modelling?
We start with your content and editorial processes rather than with pages: we define content types, fields and references so content stays modular and reusable. Alongside that we set up governance – who maintains what and how content gets approved. A solid model matters because reworking content types later becomes more effort as your content base grows.
How do you integrate Contentful into our existing frontend?
We pull content through the Content Delivery API into your frontend stack, for example a Next.js frontend or native apps. For your editors we also wire up the Preview API so changes are visible in the real layout before they go live. Because Contentful is API-first, your frontend stays your own choice and independent of the CMS.
Can we migrate from an existing CMS to Contentful?
Yes. We analyse your current content, derive a suitable content model from it and move the data into Contentful in a structured way. We support the switch with editorial onboarding so your team confidently adopts the new, structured way of working. The effort and timeline depend mainly on how cleanly your legacy data is already structured.
What drives cost and operations with Contentful?
Contentful is a hosted platform, so the provider handles hosting, updates and scaling – in return there are ongoing licence costs that scale with usage, environments and languages. For localization and clean release processes we set up a multi-environment workflow so you can test changes in a staging environment first. For highly custom requirements or strict self-hosting policies, an open-source system can be the better choice.
