We build withDirectus

Directus turns a SQL database into an API and an editorial backend. We use it to manage content and data in one place.

  • Headless CMS directly on your SQL database
  • REST and GraphQL APIs without an extra layer
  • Granular role and permission management
  • Self-hosting or Directus Cloud

Database-first, not a data silo

Directus works directly on your SQL database without encapsulating data. Content and existing business data live in one source.

APIs without custom development

REST and GraphQL are available instantly. Frontends and third-party systems connect without building an API yourself.

Content and data unified

Directus suits classic editorial content as well as structured business data – one backend for both.

Granular governance

Fine-grained roles, permissions and workflows make Directus viable for sensitive data and larger teams.

Frequently asked questions about Directus

When is Directus the right choice for us?
Directus is a good fit when you want to manage structured data and editorial content in one place while keeping your frontend completely free to choose. It sits as a headless CMS directly on top of a SQL database and exposes it via REST and GraphQL APIs without adding an extra layer. It is especially strong when you already have a database or need full control over the data model and hosting.
How do you approach a Directus project?
We start with the data model and design collections, fields and relationships so they map cleanly onto a SQL database. On top of that we build role, permission and workflow concepts so editors and developers work along clear boundaries. We then connect the resulting REST or GraphQL API to your frontend, such as Next.js or Nuxt.
Can we put Directus on top of our existing database?
Yes, that is exactly what Directus is built for. It reads the schema of an existing SQL database and makes its tables usable as an API and editorial backend without restructuring them. We review the schema upfront and set up granular permissions so existing data becomes accessible in a controlled way instead of being fully exposed.
How do you integrate Directus with our existing systems?
We connect Directus to frontends like Next.js or Nuxt and to third-party systems through its REST and GraphQL APIs. For events we use flows and webhooks, so Directus can trigger downstream processes or notify other services. This keeps Directus as the central data hub without locking you into a single channel.
When is Directus not the right fit?
If you need a classic shop system or a ready-made editorial frontend with many out-of-the-box features, a specialised platform is often a better match. Directus gives you the API and an admin backend, but you build or commission the actual frontend yourself. And if no one can operate the self-hosted instance and Directus Cloud is off the table, that is something to clarify with us up front.
